Tyler Sutterley

headshot of tyler sutterleyTyler is a Research Associate in the Polar Science Center working with Ben Smith. He will be using airborne altimetry data from NASA Operation IceBridge and satellite altimetry data from ICESat-2 to analyze present-day changes of the Greenland ice sheet and how these changes relate to climate.

Before his appointment at PSC, Tyler was a NASA Postdoctoral Program Fellow at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center working with Tom Neumann and Thorsten Markus. There he used airborne altimetry data from Operation IceBridge to investigate changes of Antarctic ice shelves, the floating extensions of ice fringing the ice sheet. Tyler earned a Ph.D. from the Department of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine under the advisement of Isabella Velicogna. He’s interested in using remote sensing datasets to investigate changes in ice sheets and ice shelves, and using that information to study modern-day sea level rise.

He likes hiking and being on the water.
