Before joining the Polar Science Center, Maddie received her PhD with Dr. Jim Thomson in Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington on the role of surface waves and turbulence in the autumn Arctic Ocean. She has participated in a number of oceanographic field campaigns, in both the Arctic and Antarctic, including the ONR Sea State and SODA programs, and PIPERS in the Ross Sea. Maddie has a B.A. in Earth & Oceanographic Studies and Environmental Science from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
