Knut Aagaard

Knut AagaardDr. Aagaard investigates high-latitude oceanic processes and their role in climate. He is currently focusing on the changing Arctic Ocean, and on the role of freshwater in shaping the Bering Sea ecosystem. His work involves ocean observations and monitoring as well as analysis, all within a broad regional framework. His research has entailed fieldwork throughout the Arctic Ocean and its adjacent seas and in the Subarctic. Dr. Aagaard holds a joint appointment with the School of Oceanography. He has published several books and his research papers appear in a variety of oceanographic and geophysical journals. Prior to joining PSC in 1992, he spent 6 years with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and 20 years at the School of Oceanography, University of Washington. He is the Principal Investigator of the Best Bering Shelf study sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
